Who is NFCR?
The National Foundation for Cancer Research (NFCR) is a leading nonprofit, nongovernmental funding agency for cancer research. Founded in 1973 to support scientists in their pursuit of novel discoveries to prevent, diagnose, treat and cure cancer, NFCR is unique in its benefits to cancer research worldwide.

What does NFCR do?
NFCR has served as the catalyst for funding of many scientific breakthroughs over the past 31 years, and continues to do so, in laboratory research that leads to better prevention, earlier diagnosis, new treatments and the eventual cure for cancer. NFCR's contributions to basic life science and translational research are accelerating the pace for finding the cure for cancers.

What types of science does NFCR work on?
With the commitment in bringing an end to cancer and saving more lives, NFCR seeks to understand the molecular and genetic origins of cancer and to develop new drugs and life-saving therapies to prevent, halt or reverse the onset of cancer. NFCR also serves as a public resource for cancer prevention and education through informational publications and our website, www.NFCR.org.

Can you tell me more about what type of work that NFCR focuses on and what my donation will go towards?
NFCR's Laboratory Without Walls is a collaborative network of researchers who are working at research facilities around the world to tackle the most critical aspects of cancer research including drug discovery, how to stop metastasis to other parts of the body, and how to reduce the side effects and make treatments more effective and less painful. NFCR currently supports nine (9) NFCR Discovery Centers and over 30 individual research programs. This network of scientists operates in the best research institutions in North America, Europe and Asia and has been extremely successful in facilitating collaboration between various institutions and researchers so that a cure may be found more quickly.

What sort of discoveries has NFCR funded that I would be familiar with?
At NFCR, we believe in Progress Benefiting Patients. As example, Dr. Graham Richards at Oxford University, a NFCR funded Research Center, has completed the first stage of his computational drug discovery program (commonly publicized as the Screensaver Project) and as result accelerated the pace of leukemia research by three to five years. NFCR funding also directly led to the discovery by Dr. Harold Dvorak of the identification of the protein known as VEGF, now regarded as the most important molecule in tumor blood vessel formation. This discovery is allowing scientists around the world to develop VEGF inhibitors to cut off the blood supply to tumors and halt a cancer's growth. Media has just recently heralded lycopene as a key antioxidant in the prevention of prostate cancer, of which NFCR's funded Dr. Helmut Sies was the original pioneer in this area nearly a decade ago.

Why is it necessary for NFCR to engage in this type of Partner Relationship Program?
The ultimate goal for NFCR is to find high quality value oriented programs for our donors that also serve to provide an opportunity to give back from a funding standpoint so as to target research program that can find a cure for cancer more quickly and thereby save more lives. Since 1973, NFCR has spent over $200+ million in supporting discovery-oriented basic science cancer research and cancer prevention. All of this has been made possible by generous individuals who support our mission.

  • Leave a note on the door of the recipient's home asking them to call the florist and schedule an appropriate delivery time.
  • Leave the arrangement in a covered area of the home (porch or other entrance). *
  • Leave the arrangement with a neighbor and place a message on the recipient's door referring them to the neighbor who accepted for
